Situated on the banks of the Crocodile River, at the most southerly entrance to the Kruger National Park lies Elephant Walk Retreat, just a stone throw from the Crocodile Bridge Gate. Offering unrivalled views of the Kruger National Park and the magnificent Crocodile River, Elephant Walk Retreat is your home away from home.

 

We cater to all travellers by offering a variety of accommodation from basic to luxurious self-catering, and all nine of our units boast superb views of the Crocodile River.

 

Delight in the peace and tranquillity of the African bush in a small and intimate setting, ideal for families, and friends, Elephant Walk is also the perfect spot for a romantic getaway for couples.

 

Enjoy fantastic wildlife sightings from the comfort of your patio or deck. The big 5 as well as an array of other wildlife, and birdlife frequent the area.

 

Elephant Walk Retreat lives up to its name with the huge herds of elephant that visit on a regular basis. It’s a wonderful and exhilarating experience to be able to safely view these magnificent giants, as they stroll along the fence line.

 

Enjoy a refreshing dip in the swimming pool, read a book under the shady _lapa_ area, take a drive in the Kruger National Park, or simply unwind, while taking in the nature and gorgeous views.

 

Elephant Walk retreat boasts some of the most spectacular sunsets, sip on a glass of crisp wine, as the last rays of sunlight disappear behind the horizon and listen to the bushveld choir come alive at night, with lions roaring, hyenas giggling and hippos groaning.

Types of accommodation

Inyati (Unit 1) & Bhejane (Unit 2)

Inyati, meaning buffalo and Bhejane meaning rhino in Zulu, are the signature units of Elephant Walk Retreat. These units were the very first to be established on the property, and were designed to cater for travelling families, and small groups of friends.

 

Both chalets offer superb views of the Kruger National Park, with a wonderful seating and barbeque (braai) area overlooking the Crocodile River. The units comfortably sleep six guests and have two separate bedrooms, which are air-conditioned; the master bedroom has a king-sized bed, plenty of wardrobe space and a large dressing table. A glass sliding door leads onto the patio with magnificent views of the Kruger.

 

The second bedroom has two single beds, and also offers a wardrobe. The units offer one bathroom with a shower, washbasin and toilet, and a second toilet separately. The living room area offers comfortable seating, and a fold-out sleeping couch, which the staff can make up upon request. Both units also offer a TV with the full DSTV listing. The kitchens are fully equipped including a microwave, oven, stove, kettle and toaster. Both units offer under-roof parking and are situated close to the communal pool area.

 

Ingulule (Unit 3)

Ingulule, which means cheetah in Zulu, is a stunning five sleeper log cabin. The cabin, which is raised on stilts, offers panoramic views of the Kruger National Park.

 

The master bedroom is air-conditioned with a king-sized bed and a three-quarter bed, with an en-suite bathroom, which has a shower and toilet. The lounge area is air-conditioned and has a television with a couch that can be converted into a double sleeper couch. This unit is ideal for families. Please note that there is only one bathroom, and the guests sleeping in the lounge area will need to walk through the master bedroom to make use of it.

 

The bedroom opens onto a small viewing deck, which has a well-equipped kitchenette, and a dining table, which is used as the living room area. The kitchenette has a stove top, microwave and a lovely barbeque (braai) area in front of the log cabin, offering an authentic African experience.

 

Family and friends can sit around the fire as the sun goes down and listen to the bush come alive at night.

 

Imvubu (Unit 4)

Imvubu, which means hippo in Zulu, is a fully self-catered thatched log cabin that is raised on stilts. Being raised off the ground ensures that this is the perfect spot for wildlife viewing, with daily visits from a variety of birds, and many animals that come for a drink at Crocodile River. Favourites include huge herds of elephant, and buffalo, which enjoy taking a wallow in the refreshing water.

 

Imvubu is a one-bedroom log cabin, which sleeps four guests. The sleeping configuration offers a king-sized bed, and fold out sleeper couch, which can be made up upon request by the staff. The cabin is air-conditioned and has an en-suite glass shower and basin with a separate toilet.

 

A well-equipped kitchenette, and dining table is situated on the private viewing deck, which is used as the living room area, where you can enjoy the sounds of the African bush while preparing your meal. A barbeque (braai) area is situated in front of the log cabin.

 

Ndlovu (Unit 5)

Ndlovu, which means elephant in Zulu, was the first log cabin built at Elephant Walk Retreat. Over the years this quaint, gorgeous log cabin has catered to small families, and couples from all over the world.

 

The log cabin, which is also raised on stilts, has one bedroom and sleeps five guests. It is air-conditioned and offers a king-sized bed, three quarter bed and a foldout sleeper couch, which can be made up by the staff upon request.  The unit offers an en-suite bathroom with a glass shower and a separate toilet.

 

The room leads onto a private deck, which has a dining table, and a well-equipped kitchenette, which is used as the living room area. The kitchenette does not offer an oven but has a stove and microwave. A barbeque (braai) area is situated next to the log cabin. Sip on a glass of wine, and watch the sun go down, as the bush comes alive in the evenings right in front of your log cabin.

 

Ingwe (Unit 6)

Ingwe, which means leopard in Zulu, is a smaller air-conditioned thatched unit, which can accommodate three guests.

 

The unit has three single beds with an en-suite shower and separate toilet. The shower offers a curtain, which can be drawn for privacy. The unit has a fridge, microwave and coffee/tea making facility.

 

Enjoy a rustic African experience with an outside communal bush kitchen, where you can prepare meals. The bush kitchen is shared with the unit next door and is equipped with a few cooking utensils with a stove and microwave oven, as well as cutlery and crockery, and a wash up area.

 

Ingwe faces the Crocodile River, and has a small patio sheltered by a thatched umbrella with a dining table, where you can enjoy a barbeque (braai) in the evenings, there is no living room area.

 

Ingwenyama (Unit 7)

Ingwenyama, which means lion in Zulu, is a smaller air-conditioned thatched unit, which can accommodate three guests. The unit has a queen-sized bed and a three-quarter bed with an en-suite shower and separate toilet. The shower offers a curtain, which can be drawn for privacy. The unit has a fridge, microwave and coffee/tea making facility.

 

Enjoy a rustic African experience with an outside communal bush kitchen, where you can prepare meals. The bush kitchen is shared with the unit next door and is equipped with few cooking utensils with a stove and microwave oven, as well as cutlery and crockery, and a wash up area.

Bateleur Luxury Suite (Unit 8)

This gorgeous air-conditioned luxury log cabin was named after the magnificent short tailed African eagle, bateleur, a popular species, which you should look out for on your trips into the Kruger National Park. The log cabin offers a master bedroom, which sleeps four guests, with a king-sized bed, and fold out sleeper couch, which the staff upon request can make up.  It also has a 42 Inch screen television with DSTV, and an en-suite bathroom with a shower and separate toilet.

 

Large glass sliding doors lead out of the master bedroom to the private viewing deck, offering unsurpassed views of the Kruger National Park. Elephants frequently wander below the deck, next to the fence, a truly wonderful way to admire them from a safe distance and platform.

 

The second bedroom is for the more adventurous, and offers a true African experience, as you sleep out on the deck (undercover of a thatch roof) in a comfortable queen-sized bed, which is covered with a mosquito net. It offers roll-down canvas in case of inclement weather, and a roof fan, washbasin and separate toilet.

 

The deck area has a dining table and well-equipped kitchenette; it does not offer an oven but has a microwave and stove. A barbeque (braai) area is also provided below the entrance to the log cabin. The log cabin comfortably sleeps six guests (as long as two of the guests are comfortable with sleeping on the deck) but is also a popular and romantic option for couples.

 

Martial Eagle Suite (Unit 9)

Martial eagle family suite, which is named after the largest African eagle, is not an uncommon sight while staying at Elephant Walk Retreat. This fabulous log cabin is fully self-catering, air-conditioned and offers unparalleled views of the Kruger National Park, and the great Crocodile River.

 

It’s the perfect spot to spend an afternoon watching herds of game frequenting the area for a drink of water, or a refreshing dip.

 

The log cabin can sleep six guests. The master bedroom offers a king-sized bed, a three-quarter bed and a fold-out sleeper couch, which can be made up upon request by the staff, as well as an en-suite bathroom with a private shower and toilet area. The second bedroom offers two single beds, with an en suite bathroom, which has a private toilet, shower and washbasin. Both bedrooms have large sliding doors, which open onto the thatched private deck, where there is a dining table, and well-equipped kitchenette, which is used as a living room area, it does not offer an oven but has a microwave and stove.

 

A barbeque (braai area) is situated just outside the entrance to the log cabin and has a comfortable seating area for friends and family to come together and enjoy a scrumptious meal while taking in the atmosphere of the magical African bush.

Location

Elephant Walk Retreat is located on the southern border of Kruger National Park, overlooking the perennial Crocodile River.  The closest park entrance gate is Crocodile Bridge Gate (<1km).  The Crocodile Bridge Rest Camp is less than 1km away, just through the Crocodile Bridge Gate.

 

The nearest town is Komatipoort (12km), and Skukuza Airport (80km) and Nelspruit Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (111km) are accessible.
